Apple Streusel Pie

Instructions:

Preheat the oven to 425F.

Melt butter in a 12-inch skillet. Add the apples, allspice, cinnamon, salt, and sugar and cook, stirring occasionally, until the apples have softened slightly and release their juice, 5 to 7 minutes.

Sprinkle the flour and cornstarch over the apple mixture and continue to cook until the mixture has thickened, 3 to 5 minutes. Stir in the vinegar and let the mixture cool.

In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, oats, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Add the butter and use your fingers or a pastry blender to incorporate the butter until no dry spots remain and the topping will hold together when squeezed. Topping can be made up to 4 days in advance, stored in the refrigerator.

Once the filling is cooled, add it to the par-baked crust, and top with the streusel topping. It will seem like too much topping but use it all because it will bake down in the oven.

Place on a rimmed baking sheet and bake for 20 minutes. Reduce the temperature to 375F and continue baking until the top of the pie is golden brown and the filling is bubbling, 30 to 60 minutes. Remove from the oven and allow to cool completely before serving, at least 3 hours.
